Gail
D. Carr, a native Detroiter for more than five (5) decades, attended Detroit public
schools, as well as several local colleges and universities in the metropolitan
area. Mrs. Carr has been married for 35 years, and she and husband, Eddie, are
the proud parents of son, Oba D. Carr (Professional Boxer), and daughter, Dara
D. Carr (9th grade High School Student).
A
recent retiree of SBC Communication of 23 years (January 1981-January 2004), Mrs.
Carr served in many managerial roles coupled with SBC Communication Team Leader
roles for several honored community volunteer initiatives.
In
June 2004 until present, Mrs. Carr accepted a position with the City of Detroit
(As appointed by Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick) as a Neighborhood City Hall Manager.
This position services a complete section of the city as the liaison between that
community and the Mayor's Office. This position is also responsible for managing,
directing, and promoting all citywide events, programs, initiatives, and objectives
as defined by and contiguous with the vision of the Mayor.
Gail
has always had a need to give back to the community that she lives and works in.
She has participated in several community, political, and charitable organizations
for most of her life. To date, she currently serves as Director of Dance "Daughters
of David" (Greater St. Mark MBC), Director of Outreach Ministry (Greater
St. Mark MBC), Chairman of the Board (Urban Farming), and numerous partnerships
citywide with community/charitable organizations and businesses on behalf of the
Mayor of the City of Detroit.
Mrs.
Carr is the founder and president of VALGAM, (January 2002) an event planning/project
management company.
Her
interest includes motivational speaking, shopping, dancing, music, watching romantic
movies, traveling, reading and studying the bible/theological materials, and last
but not least, "Girl Talk".
Her
life Motto: "If I can help someone as I travel along the way then my living
would not be in vain".
