Joel Dorfman, 54, is the Managing Partner of North Star Partners, LLC, in Bloomfield
Hills, Michigan. A native of Detroit, he and his wife, Carol, have two sons, Noah
and Jordan. He attended the University of Michigan, graduating in May 1973, with
a B.A. in Psychology. He attended the University of Detroit Law School where he
graduated Cum Laude in June 1977, with a J.D. Degree. He is a member of the State
Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association. From 1972 to August of 1999,
he served in various executive roles at Thorn Apple Valley, the last 15 years
as President and CEO. Beginning September 1999, Joel became the managing member
of North Star Partners, LLC. He and his sisters are the principals. North Star
Partners, LLC has investments in equities, bonds, REITS, music publishing, refrigerated
warehousing, mortgage origination, banking and real estate.
Joel
is currently involved in community and charitable organizations. He serves on
the boards of The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, University of Michigan-Dearborn's
Voice Vision Project, The Program for Holocaust Survivors and Families, The Jewish
Ensemble Theatre and The Jewish Fund. Joel is a current member of the Detroit
President's Organization (DPO) and a current member and past chairman of the YPO,
Greater Detroit Chapter. His interests include golf, horseback riding, music,
sailing and skiing.
